New College second-year student Daniel Schell continues to make impressive strides in archery.
Most recently, he placed first in the local collegiate division of the USA Archery Indoor Nationals (on February 29 and March 1) in Hendersonville, Virginia. Nationally, archers compete at one of eight sites around the United States during a six-week period, and Schell’s first-place finish earned him a spot in the national final as one of the top 11 barebow collegiate archers in the United States. Competing for the first time in the senior class, Schell placed 54th out of a total class of 152.
“Overall, I was generally happy with my shooting and, though I didn’t place higher in my collegiate class, competing against the best of the nation for the first time with that result was a great start for senior ranking,” Schell said.
Schell had planned to head to Louisville, Kentucky, on March 19 to compete in the 2020 USA Archery Collegiate Indoor Nationals Final, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Schell has been competing since he was 10, and he has represented United States archery in international tournaments in Cortina, Italy, and Zagreb, Croatia.
