New College is continuing to hold “Feminist Fridays” through the end of the semester, now in a digital format instead of in-person gatherings.
The online events are scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. on Fridays, and this week will include a general discussion about author/activist Audre Lorde and her essay, “Poetry is not a luxury.”
“Typically, these are informal brown bag lunch sessions that draw attention to a range of issues in feminism/gender studies,” said Christopher P. Noble, assistant professor of philosophy and an event organizer. “This semester, our hope is to build a virtual community, and to give students/faculty a virtual way of connecting and supporting each other that is not related to formal classes.”
Past weekly topics have included trans approaches in literature, feminist interventions in the art world, feminist reclamations of Valentine’s Day, gender disparities in various academic disciplines, and the work of female doctors in late colonial India.
