The 2020 New College Conference on Medieval and Renaissance Studies may have been canceled due to coronavirus concerns, but those thirsting for related knowledge can still get quenched at the Jane Bancroft Cook Library.
There is plenty of material on display to keep any history buff busy reading, according to Danielle Reid, New College’s senior library technical assistant.
“We decided to feature works by conference participants. That way, students who [planned to go] to the conference and were interested in learning more could easily find works by the speakers. Since the conference was canceled, this decision seems even more timely,” Reid said. “You can still read the conference program (newcollegeconference.org/program) and check out books from the display by the speakers who would have been here.”
Reid worked with Senior Library Technicians Jeffrey Thompson and Alicia Luguri, and Digital Imaging Technician Ana McGrath, to put together a display that would both celebrate the biennial conference and showcase the library’s resources.
“Our tie-in display has two components: in a glass display case, you can view authentic medieval and early modern materials from our special collections,” Reid said. “On the adjacent table, we’re displaying books from our general collection by several of this year’s conference participants.”
