Data Science Seminar: Using a Data Science Approach to Understand How the Brain Processes Information
Friday, March 1, 2019,4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST
Ethan Meyers, assistant professor of statistics at Hampshire College and research affiliate in the Center or Brains, Minds and Machines at MIT, will speak. In recent years, data science methods have become critical for gaining business insights and making decisions at many companies. Yet, most scientists will use classical statistical methods to analyze the state they collect.
Meyers will discuss how he has been developing supervised machine-learning algorithms that can give a clearer picture of what information is in different brain regions and how the information is coded in neural activity. He will also discuss how perspectives from data science can speed up the pace of discovery in the sciences.
