Known extensively in Puerto Rico’s Afro-Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban music circles, Totín Agosto Arará has been singing, and composing rumbas, bombas and plenas for decades with groups like Los Majaderos de Cachete Maldonado, Rumbaraza, La Liga Rumbera and Yuba Iré.

New College of Florida hosts its sixth annual Black History Month (BHM) celebration. With a combination of artistic and academic events, the BHM celebration will examine the meaning of liberation, justice and belonging for individuals in global Black communities. New College’s annual Black History Month program offers an opportunity to build community and increase knowledge of the rich history, culture, and contemporary complex realities of Black people and communities, globally. The program contains events that are appropriate for people with different interests and community members of all ages. All events, unless otherwise noted, are free and open to the public.
This year’s events are being sponsored by New College of Florida; the Andrew Mellon Foundation: New College Connecting the Arts and Humanities on Florida’s Creative Coast Grant, and the Andrew Mellon Foundation: New College and the CCA in the Community Grant.
