Natural Sciences Seminar: Applied Ecological Modeling
Friday, March 29, 2019,2:30 pm - 3:30 pm EDT
Dr. Kristy A. Lewis, of the National Center for Integrated Coastal Research at the University of Central Florida, will speak on uses for applied ecological modeling for restoration, prediction and management in coastal ecosystems.
Coastal systems are exposed to synergistic natural and anthropogenic disturbances that include urbanization, fishing exploitation, climate change, oil and gas infrastructure, erosion, subsidence and eutrophication, among many others. As a result natural resource managers are always looking for tools to facilitate faster and more economical mechanisms to evaluate changes in coastal ecosystems. Dr. lewis will present case studies to show how ecological modeling is used to aid in decision making for coastal resource management.
