Senior Recital: Zulfiia Tursunova, Piano

Zulfiia Tursunova is a Ukraine-born pianist, composer and improviser. She is studying Psychology and Music at New College of Florida and intends to continue her academic endeavors in these fields in graduate school. I

n 2014 she received a Sarasota Steinway Society Award, where she performed masterworks of Chopin, Brahms, and Beethoven. She is the Artistic Director of NCF New Cats Jazz Band that regularly performs in local venues. Zulfiia took part in New Music New College sonification and improvisation project Inter/Action that featured compositions of Mark Dancigers and is currently collaborating in Eliza Ladd’s “Tigers Above and Tigers Below.” In 2018 she received Student Research and Travel Grants for her Brain Functional Connectivity research and for the world premiere of her chamber music composition, “Units of Consciousness,” that raises questions about the scientific and philosophical nature of the concept of consciousness.

Zulfiia produced a series of short movies for This Child Here Foundation about homeless children on the streets of her hometown Odessa, Ukraine. She serves as the President of NCF Toastmasters Club, a part of the international Toastmasters community where she received Advanced Leadership and Communication Awards and chaired the Sarasota Toastmasters Leadership Institute in December 2018.
