Staged reading of student play ‘Testing Gold’

The Modern Works Festival is a playwriting contest, reading festival and celebration of women in theatre. In the newly formed Student Category portion of the festival, exclusively for Sarasota’s Cross College Alliance students, winning student playwright Lily Tanner will receive staged readings of her play, “Testing Gold,” at New College of Florida’s Black Box Theater, and at the Urbanite Theatre, with a professional director and actors.
Admission is free.
Lily Tanner is a third-year environmental studies/theatre, dance and performance studies AOC at New College of Florida. Lily wrote her first short play at age 11 for a history fair competition and has continued to write for fun since/ This is Lily’s first performed play.
This piece will also be performed the prior evening in downtown Sarasota: from 6-7 p.m. at the Urbanite Theatre. Admission is $15 , $5 for students. There are a limited number of free NCF seats for the reading at the Urbanite, contact professor Diego Villada if interested.
