An Italian chamber music festival based in Varano, Italy, has come to Sarasota for a summer residency in recent years, and this year Fiati Five, a wind quintet made up of Michael Walker, horn, Christina Dioguardi, bassoon, David Cook, clarinet, Zachary Pulse, oboe, and Alice Jones, flute, are in town performing at several venues.

The ensemble has teamed with New Music New College for that program’s typical presentation of an artist conversation and a concert. The Fiati Five will share their experiences in performing new works at Thursday afternoon’s discussion, and Saturday they will perform works including a new composition by New College of Florida alum Nikita Myullyari.

Myullyari, who has been studying music performance since he was 9 years old, studied piano with Irena Koffman of Florida Atlantic University and composition with South Florida composer Donald Waxman. He has won numerous awards for both composition and performance. He graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Music degree.
