There have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in our campus community.
Since mid-March, our COVID-19 taskforce, led by Dr. Anne Fisher of the Counseling & Wellness Center, has been meeting virtually, twice a week, to address the multiple challenges and disruptions to our campus caused by the virus.
Now, we are turning our focus toward the equally complex process of returning our campus to somewhat normal operations as safely as possible.
As the state embarks on Phase I of the “Safe. Smart. Step-by-Step. Plan for Florida’s Recovery” (which Gov. DeSantis announced Wednesday evening), New College will continue to abide by the recommendations of the state, county, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Most employees will continue to work remotely, but we are developing protocols to eventually allow those who wish to return to campus to do so safely.
Earlier today, Syd Kitson, chair of the Florida Board of Governors, issued a statement about the next steps for the State University System (SUS) as we look ahead to Fall 2020. While we don’t yet have specifics regarding the reopening of campuses, we do know that the entire SUS will open together.
Please continue to remain vigilant about social distancing and frequent hand washing to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
