The end of the year academic year is a time to celebrate the end of finals, commencement, and  the start of summer. Here is a sample of how students are ringing in summer across campus.

The Environmental Studies AOC hosted a reception for its graduating students, who presented their thesis projects at the Carriage House on Monday, May 6. Projects ranged from sustainable clothing to religion and the environment. One graduating student, Iyanu Corniel, will continue her work at PLAN, the Post-Landfill Action Network, where she accepted a position as the organization’s director of partnerships.

The Chinese Language and Literature AOC held its end-of-the year celebration on Friday, May 10. Students gathered to enjoy a feast of traditional Chinese dishes while their classmates presented their final projects. The first-year cohort showed a film. Many of the students in attendance will travel to Asia to study abroad in the coming months. A group of seven students will attend the same university in Taiwan, while other students will study in mainland China and South Korea.
Professor of Mathematics Eirini Poimenidou held a different type of celebration for students in her Number Theory and Cryptography class. Poimenidou hosted a reception and poster session on Wednesday, May 8 to showcase her first-year students’ research projects. Students researched topics beyond what they learned in the classroom and created posters akin to those used in academic conferences. Although they did not conduct original research, the process of putting the posters together prepared students for presenting their own work in the future.
